I should have professed my love for the tabs on top during the Safari 4 beta but alas I kept to myself and now Safari is just like the others. Why did Apple not at the very least offer a choice between the original and the new and improved tabs placement? I just upgraded my beta 4 by accident today (I kept unchecking the Safari 4 upgrade) and I’m about to Time Machine it back to the beta. Finally on my 13″ MacBook I was able to have both tabs and my Bookmarks bar visible. Now I have to again disable my bookmarks bar so that I can have tabs visible. There is once again a hunk of gray mass at the top of my window that does nothing but display the title of the page. The complaint I read the most was that people didn’t like that you had to move the window around by grabbing a tab. Anyone that needs that much real estate just to move the window well I feel for you. Anyway, that is my rant. I could go on but the people have spoken and tabs on top are gone for now. I bet the majority of the people that wanted the old tabs back are probably the same ones that “voted for change”.

Here are some boxes that I built based on the Gary Rogowski design from Fine Woodworking issue #139. Although the boxes are not big they still take awhile to complete (at least they did for my first time out). I built the first boxes out of cherry but I did not follow the assembly directions so that may have been why they seemed to take a little longer. The second two that I built were out of ash and I followed the assembly directions a little better and the whole project went a lot smoother. I decided to leave the pins out of my boxes and see if they perform well as far as the joints are concerned and so far so good. The finish that I applied is clear shellac by Zinsser. It was the first time that I had ever used shellac and at first I was a little discouraged. I own the Bob Flexner book but I consulted it after I applied the finish and read that I should have thinned the 3-pound cut to a 1-pound cut for my first layer of shellac and a 2-pound for all subsequent layers. The finish turned out alright but the next boxes will be better as I now have a good feel for the project and working with shellac. I still have to complete a couple of business card holders that I will have to give out after the holidays. They are simple little scrap bin projects but people like to receive things no matter how small.
Have a merry Christmas and a happy holidays.

I had a great time doing this project and once again I learned so much. We did it all except for excavation, pouring the foundation, hanging and finishing drywall, electrical, plumbing, and putting on the roof. It was so fun to do that it inspired me to make a shed of my own and do something a little different. Here are some pictures of the shed.

Well I have been trying to find time to update the look of this site because the other design was just an interim. Well as life would have it I have not had the time or the creative spark to make my own design so I went looking for one that was similar to what I wanted to do and I found it here in Narnia . I am not done tweaking it and it will take some time but I think this is going to be CrookedShack.com. If anyone has any objections let me know. I have ideas of what I want to do but I don’t have the time or the skills. I can learn the skills sure but I need the time in order to learn the skills. I have also started to realize that since I don’t do web work I shouldn’t be spending more time on it than is necessary. I need to spend time on things like my job, my family, and my house since those the most important items right now. I am not done playing with this site but I will be taking a break from thinking about the design and instead will be posting photos and writing posts instead of mulling over whether or not I have the right design and getting caught up in that vicious cycle. I hope you all (2 of you) enjoy.

I have just downloaded Flock and am using it to write this post. I have only played with it for a few minutes but it looks like it is going to be a great piece of software. The blog posting feature is really nice. I wish you could change the font that the editor uses (maybe you can) because I really dislike Times New Roman. The browser has some other great features like publishing your favorites directly to de.li.cious, a history search using the open source search engine Clucene, RSS feed find, tagging of bookmarks, and a feature called The Shelf where you can drag URLs, pictures or text from any web page for saving so that you can blog about it later. This is a developer release but so far it seems pretty stable. You should definitely check it out.

Update:
I tried to publish to my blog using the tool but it did not work. I am using wordpress and that was not an option on the dropdown so it chose MetaWeblog. It successfully wrote to my blog but only I could see it under the admin section. Everytime I tried to view the real URL I got the 404 error. Hrmm

Update 11/03/05:
I have downloaded the latest build of flock and am trying the blog editor again. Let’s see how it goes.
